Beaver Scouts (6-8)

What are Beaver Scouts?

The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group; they meet up for an hour per week. Our Colony is called the Ohio Colony. Beaver Scouts are young people (boys and girls) aged between 6 and 8 years old. There is some flexibility in the age range: young people can join from age 5¾, and can move to Cubs between age 7½ and 8½. It may sometimes be appropriate to extend this flexibility for young people with additional needs.

When do our Beaver sessions run?

Our Beaver Colony meets during school term-time every Wednesday between 5:45 pm and 7 pm, at our Scout Hall, on Dudlow Green Road. Our Beaver Colony is led by a fantastic team of volunteers.

We would be delighted to welcome your child to our Group, to start their fantastic Scouting adventure with us. Please click on the “Contact Us” button to get in touch.

Activities and Achievements

During their time in the Colony, Beaver Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips and days out. They also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them. There are a range of badges and challenge awards that Beaver Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.

The Beaver Scout Promise, Law, and Motto

There are a number of variations of the Beaver Scout Promise to reflect the range of faiths, beliefs, attitudes, and nationalities, in the UK within Scouting. It is a way to introduce the Scouting values in all sections.

The Beaver Scout Law: There is no formal Beaver Scout Law. The concepts expressed in the Scout Law are to be presented to Beaver Scouts through games, storytelling, and other informal activities.

The Beaver Scout Motto: Be prepared

Beaver Scout Uniform and Flag

Beaver Scouts wear a turquoise sweatshirt with a Group scarf (often called a Necker) and a coloured woggle which identifies their Lodge (Yellow, Red, Blue. Green).

The Green with White Trim Necker is provided by the Group when the Beaver is invested as a full member.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
